Do’s and Don’t’s for Your New Year’s Resolution - here are the Don’t’s

OK, all these Don’t’s sound a bit severe, but they go well with the Do’s! If you want to soften the advice a little you could try replacing the “Don’t …” with “Try not to …”.

Don’t go to places where you might be tempted back into smoking. Don’t place yourself in situations where people might try to offer you cigarettes.

Don’t drink too much alcohol – when you have had a few your resolve weakens, and you may lapse back into smoking again.

Don’t let your resolve weaken as the year progresses, and that New Year feeling of the optimism of a fresh start wears off. Watch out for the month of March, this is when people start to forget their resolutions.

Don’t see smoking as fashionable or attractive – smoking will actually make you less attractive to people, as it will age you faster, make you smell, and definitely make you un-kissable!

Don’t see smoking as an act of independence or rebellion – it’s not. By smoking you are falling in with what the big tobacco companies want you to do – waste your hard earned cash on their addictive product!

Don’t stop going to your smoking cessation clinic, or support group. Advice from professionals and the support of other people who are giving up will help you no end.

Don’t forget to remind yourself that you are saving lots of money!

Don’t forget to buy yourself some great treats with all that money you are saving!

Don’t blame yourself and give up trying if you backslide by having a cigarette. OK, you made a mistake, but it’s not going to stop you from continuing to try. Don’t give up giving up!

Above all, have a great New Year’s celebration, and I wish you the Very Best of Luck with your attempts to quit in the New Year.
