Do’s and Don’t’s for Your New Year’s Resolution - here are the Do’s
If you are a smoker, and you seriously want to kick the habit, what better time than now? Why not make it your New Year’s Resolution? It will probably be the best New Year’s Resolution that you ever make. So with this in mind, I have put together some useful Do’s and Don’t’s to help you towards a healthy, smoke-free life.
Do make giving up smoking your New Year’s Resolution for 2008 – you could even write it out, starting “I resolve …”.
Do make sure that you stop at midnight – even if you are at that great New Year’s Party.
Do prepare some sort of nicotine replacement to help you over those first few difficult weeks, such as patches, inhalers, or chewing gum.
Do consult your doctor and join your local smoking cessation clinic.
Do join a support group – talking to other people who are in the same boat works wonders.
Do take a look at the Quit website for your region – there are Quit organisations in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and the USA, and they are a mine of useful information related to giving up smoking.
Do take up an exercise regime – we are not sure why, but it seems to help!
Do go to your local library or bookshop and get some books on giving up smoking – they are full of advice and wisdom. Also, you could take a look at what Amazon have to offer – not only can you order the books online, but there are also helpful reviews written by ordinary members of the public who have read the books. There you will find honest opinions as to whether the books work or not.
And as for the don’t’s – OK, you can read about these in my next post!
